NASA is spending $60 million to provide new counter-terrorist defenses around the Kennedy Space Center on Cape Canaveral. This includes new fences, sensors, and guards. Currently, whenever a shuttle is rolled to the launch pad or launched, there is a massive security effort involving troops and aircraft to be sure nobody is within sniper or missile range of the shuttle.--Stephen V Cole
