Procurement: Arab Hellfire In The Gulf

Archives

October 8, 2007: The UAE (United Arab Emirates) is buying 1,200 Hellfire II (AGM-114) air to ground missiles. A quarter of these will have a blast/fragmentation warhead, for use against non-armored targets (and bunkers). The rest will be the anti-armor version. The Hellfire II weighs 106 pounds, carries a 20 pound warhead and has a range of 8,000 meters. The missile is most commonly used by the AH-64 helicopter gunship (which the UAE has 30 of). An AH-64 can carry up to sixteen Hellfires at once.
