In the south, troops clashed with a number of ex-MILF gunment (who still have their weapons.) At least a dozen died, including ten civilians, two gunmen and several soldiers. Several dozen of the gunmen were captured by the time the shooting stopped. Meanwhile, the army says the 18 Abu Sayyaf hostages on Basilan are still alive. The army has sent two more infantry battalions to Basilan to aid in freeing the captives.
