National riot police, manning a checkpoint in southeastern Anambra state, fired on a busload of people returning from a Christian religious ceremony. Four passengers were killed. The state government demanded that the national government removed the riot police. The riot police were sent to the state over the Summer to deal with the problems created by the state sponsored vigilante group; the Bakassi Boys. The riot police deny they killed anyone, although over a dozen civilians have been killed by riot police gunfire in the last three months.
