Maoist combat units are believed to be 30 percent teenagers, taken by force and indoctrinated to support the Maoist cause. The Maoist doctrine is simplistic and attractive for kids. Like so many revolutionary groups in the last half century, cheap automatic weapons make teenagers effective fighters. Being bigger and stronger is not an asset. The downside of this is that the violence can escalate. Many more civilians are dying because of teenage gunmen drunk with power and revolutionary zeal.
