This was the seventh day of peace and quiet in Monrovia, after the army and rebels had re-instituted the June 17th ceasefire. Nigeria's President Obasanjo and Liberian President Taylor met for what aides said would be a discussion of a Nigerian offer of asylum for Taylor. It was later reported that Taylor accepted the offer, although the terms were not disclosed.

General Roland Duo, commander of the Liberian Army, noted earlier that Taylor had officially informed the army to expect a new government by July 15. He also claimed that the army was not interested in continuing to fight or to gain extra territory, but would await the peacekeepers to whom they would disarm. Taylor also ordered that each Liberian government soldier be paid "a farewell compensation" of $200. - Adam Geibel
