Israel plans to cut compulsory military service for men from 36 months to 30 if a peace treaty is signed with Syria. The move, directed by PM Barak as a sort of "peace dividend" to build public support for a peace deal, would save the Israeli Army $200 million per year.--Stephen V Cole
