A recently released UN document states that in 1987 Iraq tested a bomb that would release radioactive material. It as expected that the radiation would cause sickness and death. But the project failed when the Iraqi scientists realized that the radiation levels would be too low to cause any meaningful damage. The reactor used to create the radioactive material was destroyed during the 1991 Gulf War.
