So far, the government offensive against the Aceh separatist rebels has left 270 rebels dead and over three hundred arrested. Some 30 soldiers have died. Civilian casualties are thought to be in the hundreds, but journalists are being kept out of the combat areas.  The rebels have not shown any indication of giving in, and the troops are plunging deeper into the bush while chasing the organized rebel units.
