The violence in Kashmir left 744 rebels dead in 2004. Another 138 rebels were killed as they attempted to cross the border from Pakistan. The number of bomb and grenade attacks increased. There were 244 bomb, and 182 grenade attacks in Kashmir in 2004, versus 139 and 148 in 2003. Roadside bombs have become more common, largely because of their widespread use in Iraq, which has been glamorized in the Moslem media. The Islamic radicals have turned more of their attention towards the Moslem majority in Kashmir, instead of trying to drive out non-Moslems. An increasing number of Kashmiri Moslems are hostile to the Islamic radicals from Pakistan. So terror is being used to achieve an attitude adjustment.
