Pakistan has deployed 65,000 troops along the Afghan border, and is manning 800 outposts and camps on the border. Because of tribal politics, and the fact that the tribes outnumber the troops and know hundreds of unmonitored routes across the border, Pakistan has not been able to stop Taliban and al Qaeda traffic in and out of Afghanistan. But the longer the troops are there, the more control they obtain over who comes across the border.
