The Kashmir elections have been completed. Foreign observers agreed the elections were free and fair. Rebel violence attempting to stop the elections left at least 830 dead. The party that had dominated Kashmir politics for half a century was voted out and replaced by a coalition that is keen on peace talks with separatists and rebels.

Elections in Pakistan, to elect a parliament that will be mainly for advising and criticizing self-appointed dictator Musharraf. Islamic fundamentalist parties increased their strength, but the traditional major parties still dominate.  There were 7.054 candidates running for 342 National Assembly seats. There are 72 political parties.
