The Indian army uses Victor Force, an anti-guerilla unit, for operations in the three districts comprising southern Kashmir (the Kashmir Valley). With an area of 6,753 square kilometers and a population of 2.4 million people. Victor Force's 6,000 troops  face some 500 rebels, who have killed some 150 civilians in the past six months. Most of the dead were suspected of being informers working for Victor Force. Several incidents in Kashmir left three soldiers, nine rebels and seven civilians dead.
