Pakistan's Defense Science and Technology Organization has developed new "base-bleed" ammunition for 120mm mortars which extends the range of these weapons by 30% or more. Base-bleed ammunition has a system to expel gas from the rear of the shell; the pocket of gas effectively changes the shape of the shell into a more aerodynamic "football" form, reducing air resistance. --Stephen V Cole
