Colombia has decided not to buy 46 used AMX-30 tanks and 20 field artillery guns from Spain. There were two reasons for this. One, the purchase threatened to cause an arms race with neighboring Venezuela. The new weapons were to be stationed on the border. Second, the newly elected leftist government of Spain threatened to stop the sale anyway, because the Spanish leftists consider president Uribe a right wing politicians threatening the leftist government in Venezuela.
