Colombia: January 16, 2000

The US has agreed to give Colombia another 30 BlackHawk tactical helicopters for anti-drug work; Colombia has previously received 31 of the aircraft. While the US officially supports the anti-drug operations rather than the counter-insurgency operations, the two operations tend to blur because the rebels are heavily involved in the drug business. As a result, the anti-drug BlackHawks are often used in operations against guerrillas. --Stephen V Cole
