The Greek Marxist terrorist group, November 17 group, issued a statement regarding its assassination of Britain's military attach on June 8, 2000. (The statement ran in the left-wing Greek newspaper, Elefterotypia.) The statement said that the British military attach, Brigadier Stephen Saunders, had taken an active part "in the NATO war on Yugoslavia." November 17 said Saunders was not killed by mistake but was regarded as "our biggest target in 25 years." This is another example of "Cold War terrorists" turning to "nativist" and "ethnic" themes to support their continuing activities.
