Balkans: June 3, 2000

Archives

The expedition to the Balkans has cost the US $21 billion over eight years, half of that being the cost of the Kosovo Air War. Of the US forces in the region, 60% are performing the mission while 40% are protecting the rest. For the British, 86% work on the mission while 14% provide security. The Pentagon says that its troops are more likely to come under terrorist attack, and that the American people are less tolerant of casualties.--Stephen V Cole
