Allied troops continue to use intense intelligence collection and analysis, backed by commandos and companies of infantry to search for weapons and munitions as well as Taliban and al Qaeda fighters. The public only sees one end of this operation (news reports of troops suddenly appearing in the countryside for a search). There are actually more intelligence personnel than infantry involved in the Afghanistan operation. Many of the reservists called up for active service were intelligence specialists.
