Romania is buying two used British type-22 frigates, HMS London and HMS Coventry. These will be added to the Black Sea Fleet and will form an important (and NATO compatible) addition to the Romanian Navy. The first of these (Coventry) will enter service in 2003, and the other in 2006. Both will be upgraded in British shipyards with some work done after they arrive in Romania.--Stephen V Cole
