The US Navy is planning to integrate airborne and shore-based radars into its Cooperative Engagement Capability system, which is designed to link together the radars and missile launchers of several warships. In theory, the system would allow ships to fire weapons at targets detected by another ship or to be protected by the weapons of a ship farther from the enemy. --Stephen V Cole
