South Korea has decided that Hyundai will build the three new German-designed Type-214 diesel submarines (a $1.1 billion deal) instead of Daewoo. Hyundai, which has been wanting to break into the submarine business, offered a lower price and was judged to be a stronger company.--Stephen V Cole
