The 2002 Defense Authorization Act called for the Secretary of Defense to consider issuing two new campaign ribbons, one for the Cold War (1945-1991) and one for service in Korea after the Korean War. Unofficial "Cold War Victory" medals have become so prevalent on the private market that many soldiers are wearing them, assuming they are official US issue. The Pentagon has had to issue a special memo disavowing these private medals.--Stephen V Cole
