Romania has redesignated its flagship, the 5,800-ton destroyer Marrasesti, as a frigate. This somewhat odd announcement reflects Romania's attempt to qualify for NATO membership. One requirement is that a prospective nation's warships must be classified according to NATO standards.Stephen V Cole
