All efforts to privatize the Air Traffic Control system (or shut down control radars and let airliners use "free flight" along defined routes) has effectively disappeared. Some parts of the air transport industry had been pushing for such "reforms" and thought they were gaining momentum. The reforms would have made air transport cheaper and faster. --Stephen V Cole
