The Army is pointedly warning the Air Force that its new medium brigades will mean more jobs for air transports, not fewer. The goal is to be able to deploy a brigade mounted in LAV armored cars by air in 96 hours. While airlifters can carry many more LAVs than M1 tanks, they are not generally expected to carry more than a few tanks as most of those are sent by ship.--Stephen V Cole
