Embraer is selling 76 ALX light attack aircraft to Brazil for use as trainer, counter-insurgency, and patrol aircraft. The contract has an option for 23 more aircraft, and 50 of the total will be two-seat types. First delivery is set for 2003. The ALX is a derivative of the Super Tucano trainer. ALX has two 12.7mm machineguns and can carry 3,000 pounds of bombs, rockets, or gunpods. Thirty two-seaters will go the 2/5 group for use as trainers, 20 will be used as night interceptors, and the others as patrol and light attack aircraft.--Stephen V Cole
